Description
Permit (Trachinotus Falcatus) is a popular marine game fish from the Carangidae family that is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical areas of the western parts of the Atlantic Ocean. These fish prefer to inhabit salty and brackish shallow waters with muddy or sandy bottoms close to the shore. When feeding in schools near the surface, Permit can be spotted by their scythe-shaped dorsal fins that often protrude from the water. These fish have tall bodies, compressed on the sides, with dark blue backs and golden-yellowish abdomen. Permit can reach a maximum weight of 36 kg (79 lb) and grow to a length of 122 cm (48 in). However, the weight of most specimens tends to average from 3 to 20 kg (6-40 lb). Fully grown Permit feed predominantly on crabs, shrimp, and smaller fish.
