Description
Greater Amberjack (Seriola dumerili) is a large semi-pelagic predatory fish from the genus Seriola. It is considered the largest species of the Carangidae family. It can reach more than 80 kilograms (176 lbs) in weight and more than 2 meters (6 feet) in length. It is very common in tropical and subtropical, as well as in all warm temperate waters. The Greater Amberjack keeps near deep-sea caves, reefs, shipwrecks, and other underwater structures. The basis of its diet is fish, as well as cephalopods and crustaceans. It’s a commercial fish, widely known as “reef donkey” for its stubbornness during the fight. It’s recommended to use trolling and casting on live baits and artificial lures to catch this fish. It’s often landed as a bycatch in bottom fishing alongside Snappers and Groupers.
