Description
Grass Carp (Ctenopharyngodon Idella), also known as White Amur, is a large herbivorous freshwater fish species of the Carp family. Originally native to eastern Asia, Grass Carp was introduced for weed control throughout Europe and USA in the 1960’s. These fish usually inhabit lakes, ponds, and large rivers, preferring slow-flowing or standing waters with plenty of aquatic vegetation. Grass Carp have elongated dark olive bodies with brown-yellowish sides and white belly. These large fish can grow to anywhere from 1 to 14 kg (2 - 30 lb) in weight, but its possible to catch unique specimen weighing up to 22 kg (45 lb)!
