Florida Gar (Lepisosteus platyrhincus) is a species of Gar found in the USA throughout Florida. Often found in medium to shallow waters, these fish prefer lakes, canals, and lowland streams with muddy or sandy bottoms and underwater vegetation. Their elongated bodies are heavily armored with scales, and the similarly elongated jaws are filled with long, sharp teeth. Florida Gars can reach a length of over 3 ft (91 cm). Adult Florida Gars mainly feed on fish, shrimp, and crayfish.
