Description
Common Snook (Centropomus undecimalis) is a species of marine fish widespread throughout the tropical waters of the western Atlantic Ocean from the coast of the North Carolina to Brazil including the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea. These fish are often found in the coastal areas, such as brackish deltas of the Everglades. Common Snook have long snouts and are brownish-silvery in coloration with a white underbelly and a distinctive black lateral line. Snook usually range in size from 1.5 to 6.5 kg (3.3 to 14.3 lb), but the largest Common Snook ever caught weighed 24 kg (53 lb) with a length of 1.4 m (4.6 ft). These fish are carnivores, with a diet dominated by smaller fish, and crustaceans such as shrimp and crabs.
