Description
Bluntnose Minnow (Pimephales Notatus) is a species of freshwater fish with a natural geographic range extending from the Great Lakes down along the Mississippi River basin to Louisiana, and across the Midwestern United States. These fish prefer lakes, rivers and streams with shallow, clear water and sandy bottom. This small silver fish can be distinguished by its rather flat head and snout. Bluntnose minnows are commonly 7 cm (3 in) long, with a maximum length of 11 cm (4.3 in). They feed primarily on aquatic insects, algae, aquatic insect larvae, and small crustaceans. Occasionally they will eat fish eggs or small fish.
