Description
Bigfin Reef Squid (Sepioteuthis lessoniana) is a small squid up to 80 centimeters (2.6 feet) long and weighing up to 2 kilograms (4.4 lbs), which resembles a cuttlefish thanks to the length of its fins. It’s very common in temperate and tropical waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans. This Squid inhabits depths of up to 100 meters (330 feet) near the coastline, keeping nearby rocks and coral reefs. It tends to gather in flocks and be active day and night, although it’s somewhat less active during the day. The basis of the diet of this voracious predator is made up of crustaceans and small fish. This Squid feeds both in shallow and deep places in all layers of water. The Bigfin Reef Squid can be caught all year round with a spinning rod using squid and jig lures.
