Description
Albacore (Thunnus alalunga) is a schooling pelagic fish of the tuna genus, characterized by unusually long pectoral fins. It can be found in temperate and tropical latitudes of all oceans. It can reach up to 60 kilograms (132 lbs) in weight. It may stay in the surface layer or go almost 600 meters (2000 feet) deep. Tunas often flock with other tunas of their size. It is constantly in motion, actively feeding day and night. Unlike other tunas, most of its diet consists of cephalopods, in particular squid. It also feeds on fish, crustaceans, and jelly-like organisms. Albacore meat is considered the best of all tuna.
